Welcome to It's A Joy 2 Scrap's April Fool's Day Blog Hop! I hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday! If you came here from Carlene of Miss Pink Cricut, you are in the right place. However, if you happened upon my blog by accident and would like to start from the beginning of this hop, please head over to It's A Joy 2 Scrap's blog so you don't miss any of the fun.
For this hop, we were asked to create a project that “tricks the eye.” I was super excited to do this blog hop although, if I'm being completely honest, the theme scared me a little. It sounded relatively easy to think of a project that fools or tricks the eye and knowing this could be interpreted in any way we wanted, it took a lot of brainstorming on my part to come up with something I felt reflected this theme.
Initially, My thoughts were eye tricking things, such a magic tricks or those eye games that make you think something on the page is moving when it's actually not. Then I brainstormed 3-D ideas, like the the sidewalk art that is so popular. Although all of these ideas were fascinating to me, I couldn't figure out how to make any of them work for this exact project.
Don't these look awesome? They are works of art made to look 3-dimensional painted on sidewalks.
After lots of thought and brainstorming and even picking my friend's brains for ideas, here's what I came up with.
My interpretation of this theme was something that caused a double-take or something that you had to look closely at to be sure it was right. So I made a paper bag album with some pictures of my family and these "moments" that tricked my eye! Enjoy.
These first few pictures: We had gone to the ocean in Southern California on a family vacation. My daughter was buried in the sand so we took advantage of it. We put pants on her and used the sand buckets to give her...eh hem...boobs (for lack of a better word! LOL) Now my thought when I saw this picture was that if she were just there alone, anyone walking by would have done a double-take. So that's how this pic made it into this album. And it was fun.
This picture was taken at California Adventures. You can see behind me is down the street scenery. It gives the impression that there is more but truthfully, that was a very detailed and very realistic backdrop. The street ended about 10 to 15 feet behind me. (I'm the one pushing the stroller). This totally plays tricks on the mind. So that's how I picked this pic.
This next picture was taken on August 20, 1999 and was in no way funny. The only reason this picture made it into this album is because in my opinion, it is absolutely unbelievable that there were 5 people in that car, 2 adults, my aunt and myself, and 3 children ages 6, 3 and 3. The 6-year-old was sleeping on top of the luggage in the very back of this Toyota 4-Runner and was not buckled in. He survived the accident. His mother, who was the driver, was not buckled in and she was thrown 78 feet from the car and died instantly. I was the passenger in the front. My side of the car hit the ground first. We rolled almost end over end 5 to 6 times before coming to rest on the top of the car. My oldest daughter and my cousin (born on the same day, both 3 years old) were in car seats. I thought this picture was good to put in this album because even to this day, 11 years later, I still can't believe that I walked away from that car with nothing more than some scratches. I had an angel watching over me and the kids in that car that day.
These pictures are of my daughter who loved to play in the balls and in the bucket of stuffed animals. Some days, she'd virtually disappear inside these things to the point where you almost couldn't see her anymore. I'd have to do a double-take to find her! LOL Good times.
This picture on the left always makes me laugh. When I saw it, I knew I had to put it in this album. If I walked by this man and the little boy, I'd definitely do a double-take. His face says it all. He's quite obviously too big to ride that carousel horse and was having the time of his life (insert sarcasm here) based on his face. But my son NEEDED his daddy there with him so it was all worth it. My husband is such a good sport when it comes to stuff like this and he may not be the best at posing for pics, but he indulges me when I try!
Last year for Halloween, my son dressed up as one of our Military soldiers. We took pictures and you almost can't see him. That's why I thought this was a good picture to place in this album as well.
Recipe for this project:
I used my Cricut Expression and the Plantin School Book cartridges for the lettering.
ATG Gun
Hot glue
Flowers
several embellishments
Ribbon.
Basically, I took 3 lunch size bags and folded them in half. I made them face opposite directions but made them all bottom side up so they would sit comfortably together well. I punched 2 holes on the folded side and threaded the ribbon through. I then decorated with pictures and embellishments. Very simple to put together.
I hope you enjoy my interpretation of the theme and I really thank you for visiting my blog.
This wouldn't be near as much fun if I didn't offer any blog candy, right? So here it is:

Very creative take on the hop challenge!! :) I have a picture of my son running with mud all over his legs... You can see his upper body perfectly (very clear), but the background is blurry and his legs are blurry and blend right in to the mud... So it looks like he's a torso without legs!! LOL... That would be a good picture for your book!! :) TFS!!
